After Bristol our adventure took us to Scotland. It was summer and kids decided that after warehouses etc, they want to find job outdoors and to try hand in berry or apple picking as they had done the previous summer. As luck often does, it turned its back and that summer was bad season, and farmers didn’t want many pickers. At last we found a farm in Scotland, Coupar Angus. It was raspberry picking and quite interesting for me as I watched work organisation, people, landscape, other pickers, who had come from different countries, even Italy, Finland and were constantly changing, and new people came in, even strawberry pickers from nearby farms, since with strawberries the situation was even worse, people told that they had to sit and wait several days in lieu without work, just paying for their caravans.
Probably I am weird, but I liked this life and work, although had to leave soon. I was thinking for reasons, and it seems that the main reason was misspelled surname, when documents were sent for Workers Registration Scheme, which people from our country still had to undergo at that time. Or maybe too small palms 😀 Certainly you can grab more berries when you have long fingers and broad palms 😀 At that time I took it bit personally, but not anymore. Life is life as they say, and I managed trip to Inverness and Lohness, which farms administration organised for workers. It was kind. I only regret that I didn’t manage to go to the trip to Edinborough, though. But I got to London instead. But about that later.
